Up for sale is a Metal Lebayle LR II Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece. The tip says 8* But it actually measures around a 9. It is a very easy blowing piece that gets a huge sound. Very reminiscent of a Florida Link to me with a little more focus and less bite. I did have reservations in bidding as I knew the 7 tip opening (.103) is quite a bit smaller than the Vandoren B9 (.120). Construction: This mouthpiece really is pretty to look at even though it is just a hunk or hard rubber. The large deeply engraved Lebayle logo and tip opening really compliment the swooping design of this piece. A wider (more open) tip opening generally requires a softer reed, while a smaller, or more closed opening, will require a harder reed. A medium-open set up would be .110 inches opening with a strength 3 or so reed (although remember strengths are not consistent between brands). Tip opening of saxophone mouthpiece. The mouthpiece tip opening corresponds to the distance between the reed and the tip of the mouthpiece. A simple way to visualize is to lay the mouthpiece flat on a table: then we see a few millimeters separating the mouthpiece of the table, that is the tip-opening.
