TAIPEI, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's industrial production index rose 8.5 percent in April from a year earlier to 102.94, mainly driven by strong demand for electronic components, according to the island's economic affairs authority earlier this week. Industrial production measures the output of industrial establishments in the following industries: mining and quarrying, manufacturing and public utilities (electricity, gas and water supply). Production is based on the volume of the output. In 2019, the index fell 3.7 percent. The coronavirus outbreak is expected to have a short-term impact on Thailand's factory output, mainly on the food industry, due to a drop in tourists.
